Do I Have Anxiety?
Free Anxiety Screening Test
The GAD-7 is a validated 7-question screening tool developed by researchers to help identify anxiety symptoms.
The GAD-7 asks about your experiences over the past 2 weeks. It takes about 2 minutes to complete.
Anxiety is common. About 1 in 4 Australians experience anxiety at some point. Taking this screening is a positive step toward understanding your mental health.
Important: This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Only a qualified professional can diagnose anxiety disorders.

What Is the GAD-7 Anxiety Screening?
The Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) is a clinically validated screening tool developed by Drs. Robert Spitzer, Kurt Kroenke, Janet Williams, and Bernd Lowe. It is one of the most widely used anxiety screeners in primary care and mental health settings worldwide. At a threshold score of 10, the GAD-7 has 89% sensitivity and 82% specificity for detecting generalised anxiety disorder, and it also screens effectively for panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Signs You Might Benefit From This Screening
Anxiety is more than everyday worry. Common signs include persistent feelings of dread or nervousness, difficulty controlling worrying thoughts, trouble relaxing, restlessness, irritability, and physical symptoms like muscle tension or difficulty sleeping. About 1 in 4 Australians will experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their life, and many people live with symptoms for years before seeking help. If worry is interfering with your work, relationships, or daily activities, this screening can help you understand whether professional support might be beneficial.
How the GAD-7 Works
The GAD-7 asks how often you have been bothered by seven specific anxiety symptoms over the past two weeks. Responses are scored from 0 ("not at all") to 3 ("nearly every day"), giving a total score between 0 and 21. Scores of 0–4 suggest minimal anxiety, 5–9 mild, 10–14 moderate, and 15–21 severe anxiety. Your results include a clear explanation of your score range along with recommended next steps.
What Happens After the Screening?
After completing the seven questions, you will see your score, what it means, and guidance on next steps. You can download or email your results to share with your GP or psychologist. This screening does not replace a professional diagnosis — only a qualified clinician can diagnose an anxiety disorder through comprehensive clinical assessment. However, bringing your GAD-7 results to an appointment can help start a productive conversation about how you are feeling and what support options are available.
